Los Angeles Area Scene Paintings Exhibition
Hilbert Museum of California Art
November 2, 2019 to April 18, 2020
Curated by Gordon T. McClelland and Austin D. McClelland
Over the past 150 years, the Los Angeles County environment has transitioned through many changes. During that time, a large number of talented artists have lived in this region and produced visual art that captured the look and feel of what was happening around them. Today we can enjoy viewing those works for both their fine art value and as visual documentation of bygone times.
Several years ago, Mark and Janet Hilbert came up with the idea to produce an exhibition featuring scene paintings of the Los Angeles area. All the works would be selected from their personal collection and from paintings they gifted to Chapman University. That idea has now come to fruition with this exhibition.
